‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Ellen Pompeo Previews Meredith’s Baby Reveal

How will Meredith’s ‘person’ react to the bundle of news? Ellen tells all — and her answer might surprise you.

Few things remain secret for long in the hallowed halls of Seattle Grace Mercy West, so you know it’s only a matter of time before everyone finds out that Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) are expecting a future intern. “[Everyone] goes to dinner, but [Meredith] can’t drink, and she’s forced to tell them why,” Ellen recently revealed to HollywoodLife.com‘s sister site TVLine. (Of course there’s drinking involved!)
The Nov. 29 episode of Grey’s Anatomy episode ended with Meredith telling Derek she’s three weeks pregnant, but there’s one more person she needs to clue in — and I do mean person.
“In that one scene we shot she seems genuinely happy,” Ellen tells TVLine of how Cristina (Sandra Oh) takes the news. ”We haven’t filmed any scenes yet where we discuss it. She actually figures it out on her own [before that], because she sees me eating, and [realizes] my boobs got big — which is funny because, obviously, my boobs didn’t get bigger.”
But even though Cristina is happy for Meredith, it doesn’t sound like this news will reduce the baby-sized wedge between them.
“Ultimately, they have to grow up,” Ellen concedes. “The older you get the more realistic it is that you’re significant other is your significant other. I mean, you’ll always have your girlfriends or your guy friends, but the person you’re married to is usually you’re No. 1.”
